Inadequate NHS hospital care for elderly 'condemns many to death'

Only a third of elderly patients who are admitted to hospital for an operation get good care, according to a report from the National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcome and Death. The routine analysis of outcomes for patients set up by the medical royal colleges found that the needs of elderly people were not often fully understood by doctors.
