Unions to launch campaign against cuts

Trade unions will mount a campaign of "real political potency" by mobilising public opinion against the government’s planned spending cuts Britain’s top trade union official has warned.

In an interview ahead of this week’s Trades Union Congress, Brendan Barber, TUC general secretary, said he did not expect to stop all the cuts but that pressure would mount on ministers to change course once people realised the effect on local schools, hospitals and services.
