You are here: Home / News / Mental health /Doctors will be told to stop prescribing too many medications which act as a "chemical cosh" for those with dementia, and shorten the lives of 1,800 people a year.
On Tuesday Care Minister Paul Burstow will announce a plan, expected to be backed by around £200m funding, to improve all aspects of dementia care, so that sufferers are diagnosed earlier, and receive better care when they are in hospitals and care homes.
